Harold L. Ford is a native of Richmond, Virginia and has spent years serving his community in a variety of ways. As a child, Harold's dream was to follow in his uncle's footsteps, which was in public safety and served as a police officer. The passion for saving lives and helping others displayed itself in Harold's adolescent life as a student. In 1994 Harold graduated from Franklin Military Academy, where he served as a Colonel and Commander of the drill team. Upon graduation, Harold entered the United States Marine Corps in December of that year, where he served as a personnel clerk, managing officers’ personnel files. In the Marines, Harold received a top security clearance and became a gunner on the CH46 helicopter.
In December of 1997, Harold joined the Richmond City Police Department where he has served for over 23 years. Some of his honors and awards include but are not limited to: Excellent Police Duty, Meritorious Police Duty, Exile Award and a number of other certificates for training and excellence. Harold has experience and training in gang violence prevention, advanced investigative practices and strategies, as well as street survival and Ballistic shield schooling to name a few. Throughout the years, Harold has had firsthand experience working with federal, state, and local agencies on their investigations which includes the U.S. Marshal, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Alcohol Tobacco Firearms (ATF), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), State Police, Virginia Probation & Parole, Virginia Alcohol and Beverage Control (ABC) and a host of local Police Departments throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. During his time in law enforcement he has prepared, assisted and executed over hundreds of search warrants, inspections, investigations, operation plans, action plans and surveillances. Harold has also spent over ten years in the police department working directly with the community addressing environmental and quality of life issues.
An important component of Harold's life is his family. Harold's wife, Raushanah works as a nurse at VCU Health Center where they met. Harold became a foster parent in 2002, and has fostered over 20 children. Between Harold and his wife, they have five biological children, four adopted children and five grandchildren.
Harold L. Ford models what an exceptional law enforcement officer, citizen, husband and father should be. He lives every day touching the lives of others with a nurturing hand of guidance, positive reinforcement and passion for securely the rights for others.
